What do you enjoy most about cross-country?
The thing I enjoy most about cross country is the joy you feel after a good race. You realize all of the hard work is really worth it.

What is the most challenging aspect of cross-country for you?
The training is very mentally and physically challenging. From speed work to long runs and hills it’s hard to keep your mind on the prize. It’s important to remember that the training will transfer to good times during races.

What advice would you give to someone who is new to cross country running?
Don’t take anything too seriously. You have super high highs and super low lows. With that being said, it’s important to continue your training even when it gets difficult.

How has cross-country running impacted your life outside the sport?
Outside of cross country, I also play basketball, softball, and run track. Cross country has kept me in such good shape for those sports.

How do you mentally push through fatigue and muscle soreness during a race?
I always tell myself, if it were easy everyone would do it. It’s important to remember all of the hard work you put in leading up to a race.

One of the most versatile girls in Track & Field, who is a PIAA qualifier in the 300 hurdles and 400-meter dash, is also a PIAA Cross Country state qualifier. Emma starts her sophomore journey looking to bring home a PIAA medal in 2023. The more races she runs, the stronger she gets throughout the season. With her strong work ethic, she will be a contender at the WPIAL finals and break the 21-minute mark in late October.
