How do you mentally prepare yourself for a big competition?
Personally, my preparation routine has remained the same for years. I try to sleep early the night before and wake up with a clear mind by reading scriptures that motivate me. Then, I follow up with six glazed donuts on my way there to help add up the carbs needed to energize me, and of course, a visit to the restroom is a must.

Who has been your biggest influence or inspiration in Track and Field?
My older brother, Hirsto. I used to watch him run and think, “I could definitely beat him” (which I can now). He really inspired me to be competitive because we used to argue over who’s faster, but now he knows it’s me.

Is there a specific race or competition you’re particularly proud of?
Definitely my WPIAL experience, as it brought me closer to the Lord and prepared me for one of the toughest competitions of my life.

How has being a part of a track and field team influenced your overall high school experience?

Being a part of high school, itself is a novel experience. When I first stepped into high school, I was nervous about what was to come, but my mother motivated me significantly by encouraging me to join the high school track team. She saw something in me that I had not yet recognized in myself. After joining the team, I realized that this was what would make my high school experience more enriching. I learned how to effectively utilize my skills, and throughout my journey, I made numerous new friends. The track community is incredibly positive and motivational for everyone; it honestly became like a family to me. Thus, through my track experience, I gained not only significant achievements but also a whole new support system.

How do you contribute to creating a positive and supportive team culture within the track and field program?
I contribute to creating a positive and supportive team culture within the track and field program by leading by example. I put my best efforts into practice to demonstrate that the way you practice is how you will perform in competitions. I do this in hopes that my teammates will do the same because, as much as I want to succeed, I want my teammates to succeed as well.

Kaevon, the defending WPIAL 100-meter dash champion, begins his junior campaign to defend the title he won in 2023. With a personal record (PR) of 10.70, Kaevon aims to add a PIAA medal to his trophy case this season. After a solid indoor season, marked by several PRs each week in the 60-meter dash, there is no doubt in my mind that he will go under the 10.7 mark in the 100-meter dash this season.
