Team Outlook The North Catholic boys look to improve upon their 10th place team finish at last year’s WPIAL Championship. The squad will be led by junior Tyler Carroll who is coming off of a superb spring track season in which he ran PR’s of 4:31 (1600) and 9:44 (3200). He’s been logging some big mileage over the summer and has gotten even stronger as helooks to be a high WPIAL and State medal contender. Sophomores Victor Wagner and Brandon Szuch along with junior Jacob Hauser are returning varsity runners. The team will be augmented by some quality freshmen including Jack Steineman, who was arguably the best middle school runner in the Pittsburgh Diocese last year. Jack’s XC season got cut short last year due to injury, but he came back strong in the spring to win Diocese championships in both the 1600 and 3200 and ran PR’s of 4:58 and 10:34 respectively. Jack Davison, 6th at the Diocese XC Champs, Gunner Kopriva, Gavin Bartus and Rylan Greene could also make an impact as freshmen. We’re a very young team, but we could be a force in the future as our youthful talent continues to develop and gets accustomed to the training and competition at this level.

Team Outlook We have some big shoes to fill as we lost senior leader Grace Lazzara to graduation, and Gracie Plastino, the PA Freshman of the Year, moved to North Carolina with her family. However, we still have five varsity runners returning from last year including individual WPIAL Champion Madeline Meeuf. Madeline’s goal is to repeat as WPIAL Champion, and fellow junior Sydney Dunn looks to be a WPIAL medal contender. Junior Tessa Driehorst has had a solid summer of training and is expected to move up our depth chart. Sophomore Alyssa Urling and senior Keelin Schessler hope to have bounce back seasons after coming off injuries. We also have one of our best ever freshmen classes coming up with several girls showing the potential to be key contributors. Caroline Sell was the Diocese of Pittsburgh cross country runner-up for Blessed Seelos last year, and her teammate Annie Puhalla finished right behind her in 3rd. We also added Maggie Killian, the Diocese champion in the 800 and 1600, from St. James. Lastly, Anna Morris and Kendall Stewart from St. Killian posted some solid track times in the spring and appear to be even fitter after a strong summer base phase. All of these freshmen can have an immediate impact and should add to our depth as we try to defend our WPIAL team title. We’re a young team, but we believe we can improve upon our 4th place State meet finish if we can stay relatively healthy.
