What is your favorite event to compete in and why?
My favorite event to compete in is the 100m dash. I love this event because I get very nervous before races, but the 100m is so short that I don’t have time to be nervous.
Who has been your biggest influence or inspiration in Track & Field ?
My biggest inspirations in track and field have been my sisters. My older sisters, Hunter and Hayden, are both very good at track, and I am a very competitive person, so I always strive to be better than them. However, because they are so good, I haven’t quite reached that goal yet, but it inspires me to work harder.
What are your goals this season?
My goal this track season is to win the WPIAL in all my individual events and bring back two gold state medals.
What do you enjoy most about the sport of track and field, both in terms of training and competing?
Something that I enjoy most about the sport of track and field is that the rewards you get from it heavily depend on how much effort you put in. If you are not performing up to the standards that you want, then you just need to work harder.
Track and field often involve setting and breaking personal records. Can you share a particularly memorable achievement or moment when you surpassed your own expectations, and what did you learn from that experience?
The moment that I can remember surpassing my expectations was very recently; it was at the WPIAL championships. My only expectation going in was to win. When I was at the starting line, the only thing on my mind was to win. So, when the race was over and I looked at the clock, I was very shocked to see 12.01, I never thought I would run that low of a time. It really surprised me and made me want to work harder.
As a track and field athlete, you may participate in various meets and competitions. Can you highlight a specific event or meet that stands out in your memory ?
A specific meet that stands out to me was the Butler Invitational, 2023. There were so many good athletes at that meet whom I knew were going to push me. Although I didn’t win or PR, it was one of the best races I had run.
Looking beyond high school, do you have aspirations to continue your track and field career in college or at a higher level? How do you envision your future in the sport, and what goals have you set for yourself?
Yes, I am running track and field at the University of Pittsburgh. I am hoping to continue to grow as an athlete and, hopefully, compete at the NCAA championships sometime in my 4 years. In my freshman year, I aim to place in the ACC conference championships and be part of a relay team. I know that to achieve these goals, I need to work harder than I ever have before.
