Girls AA Notes

The Quarzo era will come to an end this Thursday, and the girls AA field will crown a new WPIAL champion who isn’t named Jolena or Gionna for the first time since 2018. There are numerous talented girls in the AA field, making it a tough competition. My pick for the gold medal would be Grace Fritzman or Lakyn Schaltenbrand.

Four girls have run sub-19 minutes going into the WPIAL Finals.

Is a Montour 3-peat possible? I believe the AA girls’ team championship will ultimately come down to a showdown between Montour and North Catholic. When their top 7 girls hit the course, North Catholic ranks as one of the top 5 WPIAL girls’ teams across all classifications. The lead pack from North Catholic is expected to set the pace in the first 800 meters.
