What has been your proudest moment in cross country so far?
It was probably qualifying for Footlocker Nationals last year in Boston. I had no idea what to expect going into that race, so finishing in the top 10 with some future teammates felt really rewarding. Somehow, I also achieved a personal record in the 20° weather, which was a bonus.
How do you balance schoolwork and training?
It’s not easy, and I struggled a lot with this during my freshman and sophomore years. It has helped to do homework throughout the school day so that I have momentum going into the evening after practice. I also try not to overload myself with AP classes, so I took two last year and am taking three this upcoming year. I try to get as much sleep as I can because it helps with both running and school.
Who is your biggest inspiration in running?
I would say Tyler Clark and CJ Singleton. I grew up with Tyler as a family friend and always looked up to him because he was a competitive runner from a young age. I remember he invited me for a long run back in 7th grade when he was a freshman in college; from that point on, I knew I wanted to take this sport more seriously. It was a similar experience with CJ; he introduced himself after the Butler Middle School Invite in 8th grade and invited me on a run at North Park a few weeks later. It was those types of experiences that made me really love the sport from a young age.
