What do you enjoy most about being on the cross-country team?
What I enjoy most about being on the cross-country team is the sense of community. Running together with a group of girls and getting close to people you never would have expected is such a great experience. We always lift each other up, supporting everyone no matter how small the PR or accomplishment. I’m so happy to be a part of such an amazing team.
How do you recover after a hard race or workout?
I recover from my hard races and workouts in two ways. The first way is stretching. I think it is often overlooked, yet it can make or break how you feel the next day. Rolling out your legs and stretching for just 15-20 minutes can make your recovery run the next day much more enjoyable. The second way I recover is weight training after my workouts. It feels difficult in the moment, but getting a lot of blood flow in my legs strengthens them even more and can sometimes reduce soreness.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received from a coach?
The best advice I’ve ever received from a coach is to take your easy runs easy and your hard runs hard. Learning not to hold back during your workouts and going all out can significantly improve the way you race. Then, taking your recovery runs genuinely easy at a comfortable pace ensures that those hard runs can be done correctly.
