How do you handle running in adverse weather conditions?
I might change up my pre-race routine. For example, if it’s hot out, I’ll wear a cooling towel beforehand. If it’s cold, I’ll do a longer warmup. I also remind myself that everyone has to deal with the same conditions, which helps with the mental side of things. I might also adjust my strategy to focus on placement instead of time.
What’s your strategy for tackling hills during a race?
For small hills, I usually push up them the whole way. When it comes to larger hills, I maintain a steady pace for most of the hill and then surge at the top to pass others, picking up the pace until I’m back at race speed after the hill.
What role does visualization play in your race preparation?
Visualization plays a big role in my race preparation. I visualize the night before every race as well as during the bus ride to the meets. I go through different scenarios that I feel will help me prepare. It really helps me calm my nerves and build confidence before stepping up to the line.
