What keeps you pushing to improve when training gets tough?
To be successful, you have to love the journey that comes with it. There are good and bad days along the way. On the bad days, you just have to remember why you started and recognize how far you’ve come. I always remind myself that I didn’t work hard all those previous times for nothing and that the challenges are what make me a better athlete.
Describe the feeling of releasing a perfect throw—what goes through your mind in that moment?
My favorite part about being a track and field athlete is having fun and competing while doing the sport I love. What’s unique to me about track is that it’s mainly an individual sport, so you can only credit yourself for your successes and take responsibility for your failures.
What makes breaking a personal record so satisfying for you?
Seeing all my hard work pay off makes reaching a new personal best incredibly satisfying. I remember all the challenging training days and know that pushing through them helped me achieve a new record. It’s also a great motivator for further improvement. Knowing I’ve reached a new personal best makes me think about how much more I can improve next time.
