How has your mindset changed entering this season as the defending PIAA state champion?

Jonah
My mindset going into this season is focused on doing my best to defend my title. There is a lot of tough competition this year for sure, but I’m using that as motivation.

Alexis
I am more determined to defend my title coming into this track season. I spent this past offseason training harder in the weight room and continuing to push for PRs.

Mackenzie
I don’t think my mindset has changed much because my goal is always to get better every day and hit PRs. I focus on myself and try not to worry about what everyone else is doing, which really helps my mindset going into meets. There is definitely added pressure to come back and win again, but I think that only pushes me to work harder—and honestly, I thrive under pressure.

Daysaun
My mindset is the same as it’s always been, stay focused, trust the work, and come back ready to compete.

Jerry
My mindset going into this season is confident and optimistic. I believe I have the ability to be number one again at the end of the year, but I also know last year is in the past. There are a lot of great runners who want to take my spot at the top. I don’t take anything for granted. I know there is a target on my back, which means I have to dedicate myself to my training and work harder than anyone else. If I commit to getting better every day and trust my trainers, I believe I can stand on top of the podium again.

What is one goal you have for this season besides defending your state championship?

Jonah
One goal I have for this season is to help my team win the state team championship in any way I can.

Alexis
My goal this season is to push for big PRs and, by doing that, hopefully defend both my WPIAL and PIAA state titles.

Mackenzie
My goal this season is to get better each meet and stay consistent. I’d love to have another great meet at WPIALs like I did last year, and hopefully medal in more than one event at states.

Daysaun
My goal is to qualify for New Balance Nationals and compete against the best in the country.

Jerry
My ultimate goal in every race I run is to win. I haven’t lost a 400m race since the PIAA finals my sophomore year. I’d like to go undefeated again this season and run in the 46s.

Alexis

Mackenzie

Daysaun
