My Passion for Track & Field
Hello, my name is Karlon Nixon, and I am the proud owner of NixonTFXC.com. My journey in WPIAL Track and Field began in 1995, and it has been a path filled with passion and dedication. As a high school athlete at Washington High School from 1998 to 2001, I had the honor of being a four-time WPIAL Champion, contributing to team championships in 1998 and 2000, and winning the 4×100 and 4×400 relays in 2001.(WPIAL records at the time)
In 2003, I embraced the next chapter of my journey by starting my coaching career at Bentworth High School. By 2006, I had joined Chartiers Houston as the Sprint Coach, and in 2007, at just 23 years old, I was named the Track and Field Coordinator. I held that role with pride until 2016. Following that, I took on a new challenge and became the sprint coach at Chatham University from 2016 to 2019.
The 2018 season was particularly special as my wife and I welcomed twin daughters into our lives, bringing new joy and perspective to my coaching career. Although my time at Chatham University ended after the 2019 season, it marked the beginning of a new adventure.
Around 2013, I began training athletes privately during the summer, fostering their growth and potential. By 2021, I was attending track and field meets, supporting my athletes at the high school level, and using Twitter to shine a spotlight on their achievements and WPIAL Track and Field.
A parent once told me, “You have something here, and you have to figure out how to make something out of it with your coaching experience and WPIAL knowledge.” Inspired by those words, I launched Western PA Track and Field News in 2022. This journey culminated in 2023 with the creation of NixonTFXC.com, a platform dedicated to promoting the incredible athletes in the WPIAL.
I am also a PA & Ohio MileSplit contributor, writing articles, filming, photographing, and assisting with both state meets for coverage.
NixonTFXC is a passion for the sport of Track and Field/Cross Country in the WPIAL. I want to keep my website free for everyone to enjoy my content, but I am always looking for donations and sponsorships to host articles weekly on the website to keep it free. I love attending meets and taking photos and videos for athletes to watch and share on their Instagram pages. Small donations make this possible when it comes to travel and coverage.
I have big plans for NixonTFXC.com in the future and hope you can support my goals and dreams of making Track and Field/Cross Country a tier 1 sport in the WPIAL.
